The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Celebrated for Designing for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.

Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer behind some of the most iconic looks worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the soft-colored suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

His passing follows less than a month after he debuted his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in crafting form-fitting garments made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as various looks for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.
