Experience this Revamped Legendary Adventure: This Complimentary Trial for Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Lands Soon.

Players anticipating the release of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined can get a head start the full month. An free-to-play trial experience will release on Jan. 7, offering a substantial glimpse into the game's beginning segments. Critically, any save data earned within this demo can be imported directly into the main game upon its eventual launch.

Beyond Just a Straightforward Remake: A Complete Overhaul

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined represents a comprehensive reimagining of the landmark 2000 role-playing game, first known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a significant step away from other Dragon Quest re-releases, like the recently released HD-2D iterations, this version adopts a unique three-dimensional art style. Environments appear to resemble detailed dioramas, with party members having a whimsical chibi-esque look.

"Considering the 3DS remake, the main quest was still exceptionally lengthy. Therefore, we came to a decision that we wanted to tighten the story, [and] craft an experience for contemporary players."

Major Gameplay Enhancements & Updates

Square Enix have added several modernizations to refresh the classic gameplay loop. These include:

  • Expedited Field Battles: Taking a cue from modern role-playing games, low-level monsters can now be dispatched instantly on the field eliminating the need for entering a separate traditional combat screen.
  • Adjustable Combat Pace: Gamers can speed up battle sequences to rapidly get past easier encounters.
  • Expanded Job System: A completely new vocation was introduced for this remake. Furthermore, characters now have the option to master a second vocation, significantly expanding strategic possibilities.

Such alterations are designed to tackle a key the 2000 game's most noted points of feedback: its considerable playtime. The original storyline was known to require more than 100 hours to see through. This new edition was specifically reworked to refine flow and cut down on perceived repetition.
