Educator Slain and 25 Female Students Kidnapped in Firefight at School in Nigeria
Armed assailants have killed a teacher and abducted at least 25 students in an attack on a female high school in north-western Nigeria, authorities have confirmed.
The armed faction breached the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Kebbi State's Maga area at around 4 AM local time on Monday, officials stated.
The assailants "engaged police personnel on duty in a shootout" before climbing over the boundary wall and taking the pupils captive from their living quarters, an official report indicated.
An educational worker was lost their life while safeguarding the students. Another staff member suffered bullet injuries and is now being treated medically.
Observers recounted a large group of attackers, identified in the area as outlaw groups, who arrived firing sporadically to generate terror.
Local residents disclosed to media that the gunmen subsequently marched a number of girls into surrounding rural areas.
The police said they had deployed "extra specialized police forces, alongside military personnel and vigilante groups" to the area.
