American Military Conducts Lethal Strike in Pacific, Resulting in Four Fatalities
As stated by a senior military spokesperson, the American armed forces executed a fatal strike on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four people.
“A US joint task force carried out a deadly attack on a craft operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Surveillance confirmed the vessel was traveling along a known narco-trafficking route and was involved in illicit drug transport. All four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no US military forces were harmed.”
Background and Prior Actions
The statement comes a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to increase the military buildup.
Just on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Government Defends Tactics Amid Pressure
The administration has encountered growing demands to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. However, the defense secretary have refused to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of lawful warfare.
While the administration has said the operation is about stopping drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide seemed to confirm a broader political aim. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor said the leader “aims to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”
This suggests the series of strikes may be part of a push to oust Venezuela's current leadership.
